Finding Courage

In order to build courage we first have to understand what it is

So what is courage?

“Courage; taking a leap of faith; overcoming fear and accepting risk”

I love this quote by Brene Brown

“I want to be in the arena: I want to be brave with my life. And when we make the choice to dare greatly, we sign up to get our arse kicked. We can choose courage or we can choose comfort.”

The root word for courage is the latin word cour which is the latin word for heart.

So to find courage we need to find and connect to our heart.

In order to connect to our heart we need to get past the fear stories in our head.

There’s a Native American story that goes a little like this. A grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, “I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one.” The grandson asked him, “Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?” The grandfather answered: “The one I feed.”

Are you feeding the stories of fear, doubt and uncertainty, the stories of the past, the stories that keep you stuck?

Doubt can cripple us if we allow it, fear is writing that script and the story is i’ll never be enough.

So many of us chose our path out of fear disguised as practicality.

In order for you to create space for new things to to come into your life you need to be willing to let go of the bullshit stories of the past. The stories you’ve been telling yourself about why you CAN’T.

The thing is if you don’t do it you’ll suffer anyway. So you may as well try and I mean really try.

There’s no half arsing it. Until you are committed it’s like having one foot in the door. You’ll never be able to move into a new way of being if you’re not willing to let go of the past.

When we step out of our comfort zone it’s completely normal to feel afraid. But there’s a big difference between danger and fear. Danger is real but fear is a choice. We have a choice to let fear rule us or we can feel the fear and do it anyway. Listen to your heart, listen to that little voice within that’s telling you CAN do this.

Ask yourself

What stories am I telling myself about not being worthy?

What stories am I telling myself about I can’t?

Where do i need to find strength in my life?

Where do i need to find strength to stand in my truth?

Are you choosing courage or comfort?

What wolf are you feeding?
